National Citizen Service (NCS) in Stockport and How You Can Get Involved
What do we do? National Citizen Service (NCS) is a government backed scheme, which aims to bring together young people aged 15 – 17 from all different backgrounds for a common purpose, to help them build skills for work life and the transition into adulthood. The programme has been running in the Stockport area since 2012 by partnering with local community groups, charities and businesses in order to provide the young people with these skills.
Last year the groups worked with over forty partners in the Stockport area and raised more than £3500 towards their social action projects, including donations for the partners. This is a quote from one of our current partners about his experience of working with the young people in 2017:
“NCS has brought energy and vitality to The Garden House, Marple! We have formed a partnership which I believe is of immense value to both organisations. As the proprietor it has been extremely gratifying to witness first-hand the positive interaction between the NCS groups, our volunteers and the visitors to The Garden House. The feedback from all parties has been consistently positive and we look forward to the 2018 summer programme with gusto.” – The Garden House, Kevin Swindells
How you can help…We are currently in our set up phase for the summer, which has been very well supported by many organisations, such as Give2Gain. There is still an array of opportunities to get involved with as a local community group, charity or business. These opportunities vary between being a community partner, hosting a team as a professional visit or even being a Pitch Advisor at our ‘Dragons Den’ inspired event. The programme takes place during the summer so get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org) or come along to the Give2Gain Connect Friday, that we are hosting, on Friday 20th April to find out more.
